Description: Looking for a smaller gold pendant that is a step above the rest? This Seville escudo has been beautifully set in a 14K yellow gold bezel with 7 small diamonds in the bail at the top. The coin itself is a larger planchet, typical for the time, and resembles a 2 escudos in size (for scale, about the size of a US quarter). Spain produced various gold coins in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, but none quite as popular as the cross type seen here. These escudos were among the last coins struck with gold sourced around Europe, and the first to be made of gold from the Americas brought back from the first expeditions to the New World.
