Description: This is a superb example of a Potosi 8 reales. What makes this particular example special is that it is very well struck and still displays much of its original luster on both sides. The obverse displays a nicely centered and well defined Habsburg shield, a strong mintmark and assayer initial and even some of the outer legend. The reverse displays a well centered cross with the castles and lions displayed. Examples like this are extremely rare as most were melted down and converted to traditional Spanish coinage or lost to the sands of time.

This example is far to nice to be graded XF-45 and in our opinion, it’s a candidate for a regrade.

This is a really choice piece for any collector seeking a stunning Atocha shipwreck era piece of eight from the Potosi mint.
