1618-1650 Mexico 8 Reales – Sea Salvaged

Item #CC-0733 | 1618-1650 Mexico 8 Reales – Sea Salvaged
Mint:  Mexico City
Assayer: NV
Ruler/Period: King Philip IV
Weight: 16.5 grams

Description: This specimen of an 8 reales from the Mexico City mint was salvaged from a shipwreck sometime in the last 60 years. While we are unsure of the wreck it came from, the degree of silver loss, patina and corrosion on the surfaces is indicative of this fact. The planchet has two cracks on it, not uncommon for coins of this period. It is a larger full planchet, with many details still visible. A great coin overall.
