Description: This rare 8 reales was recovered from a shipwreck that is thought to be part of the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet. Although this coin does not come with a certification of authenticity that provides definitive evidence of being a fleet coin, the coin came from a collector who found it off the coast of Florida in the same area where similar coins have been discovered. This coin has superb details and reveals a double date, double denomination, assayers initial and mint mark. It also displays a well struck pillars and waves design as well as the cross, castles and lions.
For a shipwreck coin that is over 300 years old, this specimen has just about everything you would want from a Piece of Eight that came from Bolivia’s “Mountain of Silver”.
