Description: A very rare variety of a Mexico 1 escudo recovered from the famous 1715 Fleet shipwreck sites on the Florida coast! This is known as a crosslet end cross due to the small crosses seen at the ends of the cross on the reverse. This different style was only done between 1711-1713 at the mint, and all examples were lost to the sea when the fleet of Spanish galleons wrecked along the coast. This example has seen centuries of ocean exposure and rolling around in the surf, as indicated by the soft and worn look to it’s surfaces. A very unique look as many of the coins off the wrecks were preserved by the coral reefs and rocks out away from the surf. A rare coin perfect for any collector!
