1750 Potosi 4 Reales Pendant in 14K Gold Bezel
Item #CC-0392 | 1750 Potosi 4 Reales Pendant in 14K Gold Bezel
Mint: Potosi, Bolivia
Assayer: Q
Ruler/Period: King Ferdinand IV
Grade: Jewelry – XF coin
Description: This chunky 4 reales struck at the Potosi mint is a very typical sight for coins of this period. Coins were struck quickly on irregular and thick planchets, likely for quickness and ease of mintage. This coin shows signs it was possibly part of the Cerro Rico hoard which contained reales of this size, shape, and condition. We had it professionally set in an elegant 14K yellow gold bezel and stamped 14K on the reverse of the pendant. Many of the intended details of the dies used to strike this coin are intact, including the mint and assayers marks, a full date, the 4 denomination, as well as the other details in the center of the pillars and waves. A perfect pendant for any shipwreck and Spanish colonial enthusiast.
