Description: A wonderfully toned and pitted 1/96 Rupee made for the Madras presidency of India by the British East India Company in 1797. Great eye appeal, even with a details grade.
Obverse
Arms and supporters of the East India Company resting on a scroll bearing the incuse inscription: United East India Company. On the broad, raised rim is the incuse inscription:
AUSPICIO REGIS ET SENATUS ANGLIAE
Below and in a sunken panel at the bottom of the rim is a relief inscription: 96 TO ONE RUPEE
