Item #CC-0408 | 17th Century Atocha Era Potosi 8 Reales Silver Pendant – Shipwreck
Mint: Potosi, Bolivia
Assayer: NV
Ruler/Period: Philip III
Grade: Jewelry – Sea Salvaged coin
Description: This beautiful surviving example of an 8 reales minted in Potosi is a true sight to behold. The coin is heavily corroded by the ocean, leaving pot marks and texture all over the surfaces. However, many key details are still present. This coin was purchased by a close friend who had the original paperwork attributing this coin to the famous Atocha shipwreck, but unfortunately lost the paperwork years ago. We set the coin in a silver mount with 14k gold bail and prongs. Total pendant weight is 22.4 grams.
