Description: This fine example of a European made iron chest was made in the late 17th to early 18th centuries and is complete with the original key. The interior was once painted orange on the inside, which has scrubbed off due to centuries of use. A wonderful small mechanism hidden in a false hinge releases the hasp, revealing the keyhole. The key works smoothly within the lock and functions as it should. Small holes are on the bottom of this chest to allow for bolting down to a desk; a common practice in the time. A very nice example all around and a wonderful treasure preserved for years to come.
