Description: This beautifully preserved 1857 Type III gold dollar is graded in an old NGC holder as Mint State 62. This coin is definitely a premium quality specimen and appears to be under graded by at least a point. The photos don’t do this coin justice as it displays dazzling cartwheel luster and superb eye appeal.

This U.S. gold type gold coin is part of a series of $1.00 gold coins that were minted from 1856-1889.

The obverse of the coin displays lady Liberty wearing a native American feathered crown surrounded around the rim by the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”.

The reverse of the coin displays a beautiful wreath of wheat, corn, and leaves tied with a bow at the bottom, signifying America as the land of plenty. At the center of the wreath is the denomination as “1”, the word “DOLLAR” and the date.

This coin is a wonderful example of 19th century U.S. gold and would make a fabulous addition to any U.S. gold type set.
