Description: This beautifully preserved and choice uncirculated 1925-D Indian Quarter Eagle is graded by PCGS as Mint State 63. It boasts dazzling cartwheel luster, original peach toning, and superb eye appeal.
This U.S. gold type gold coin is part of a series of $2.50 Indian head gold coins known as quarter eagles. This particular type was minted from 1908-1929 and was struck at the Denver mint in Colorado. Its composition is made of 90% gold and 10% copper.
The obverse of the coin displays a Native American Indian chief wearing a headdress and surrounded by 13 stars representing the original 13 colonies. Just above the date, you see “BLP”, which are the initials of the designer Bela Lyon Pratt.
The reverse of the coin displays a standing eagle clutching a bundle of arrows and a branch in its claws. The eagle is centered in the design with the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 2 1/2 DOLLARS at the top and bottom edges. To the right of the eagle is “IN GOD WE TRUST” and to the left of the eagles breast is “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. If you look closely, you see a small “D” located at the outer edge of the coin directly in front of the batch of arrows, which represents the Denver mint.
This coin is a wonderful example of turn of the century U.S. gold and would make a fabulous addition to any U.S. gold type set.
