Description: A fabulous surviving dagger from the 18th Century. This large dagger was a more than just a weapon, it was a tool you would have carried in day to day life. Many daggers like these were repurposed from broken sword blades. Good steel blades were expensive, so repurposing what you had on hand would have saved you quite a bit. It is entirely possible this blade was initially from a larger sword. The brass fittings on the grip are in great condition, showing signs of use with small marks across the surface. The wood is possibly original to the period, but we cannot be 100% certain. It is a fantastic surviving piece of history.
