Description: This is a superb example of a 1645 dated Potosi 8 reales. What makes this particular example special is that the obverse displays a nicely centered and well defined Habsburg shield with crown, a strong mintmark and the “8” denomination. The reverse displays a complete cross with the castles and lions displayed and the numbers 645 representing the year the coin was minted as 1645. Examples like this are extremely rare as most were melted down and converted to traditional Spanish coinage or lost to the sands of time.

This is a really choice piece for any collector seeking a stunning piece of eight from the Rutherford collection.
