Description: This Piece of Eight was recovered from the 1715 fleet that sunk off of Florida on July 31, 1715.
As you can see from our photos, this coin exhibits a clear “14” from 1714, nice shield details, the mint mark and assayers initial. The reverse shows a complete Jerusalem Cross, visible castles and lions and other design features that are often missing on similar specimens recovered from the 1715 fleet.
Spanish Colonial Eight Reales of this caliber are highly sought after, especially dated and pedigreed to the 1715 fleet.
