Description: This coin is by far one of the finest Seville 2 escudos you will see, regardless of the grade on its holder. The obverse of the coin displays a boldly struck and complete Hapsburg shield capped with the royal crown, a clear “D” assayer, “S” mint mark for Seville and denomination as “II”. On the reverse, you have an almost perfectly centered cross resting in its quatrefoil surrounded by four golden rings at the intersections. You also see a halo of golden dots and a complete outer legend that reads “HISPANIA RVM REX”  which means “King of Spain” and a small cross near the 12 o’clock position. It is extremely rare to find a gold doubloon from Seville struck on this large of a planchet with this level of detail. Most planchets are much smaller than the die, which causes the legend to fall outside the planchet edges.

In addition, most of the legend is visible on the obverse where you can see most of “PHILIPPVS II DEI GRATIA”, which means “Philip II by the Grace of God”.  With a nearly perfectly centered strike, bold details, and an abundance of original luster, this coin belongs in a mint state holder for sure! The pictures simply do not do it justice and in our opinion, this coin is grossly under graded! We firmly believe this coin is a mint state coin as there are virtually no scratches or marks on it whatsoever. This is the ultimate coin for the ultimate collector of Spanish and Spanish Colonial gold coins!
